LIFE BY NUMBERS
(PIKE/SHURMAN/TRIONFO/ANDALORO)
It looks as if you've got all your lines drawn in.
When did you know it was time to begin?
If you make a mistake, if you change your mind,
Can you hope to fill in all the holes in time?
You never listen and you never learn.
Why do you wonder when you start to burn?
You burn your fingers and burn up your time.
You light the fire and try to make it mine...
It's only life by numbers... you paint your life by numbers.

I don't understand... what color is it today?
Am I supposed to see it on some plastic tray?
While you read the directions all the world goes by.
Will you even like it when the paint is dry?
I don't look back and I don't look ahead;
It's just too easy to be with the dead.
Can't see the future, don't regret the past;
You never know how long your time will last.
It's only life by numbers... I can't paint my life by numbers.

Collecting memories that won't mean a thing
When the big crunch comes, when the Black Bell rings.
They'll drain your shell of everything but your soul,
So laugh while you can before they throw you in the hole.
You'd better listen and you'd better learn.
You'd better hear before you start to burn.
Still time to change, still time to think it through,
Still time to hear because the Word is true.
It's only life by numbers... why paint your life by numbers?

THE PRISON
(PIKE/SHURMAN/TRIONFO/ANDALORO)
Chained to the wall, can we control the situation?
We seem to lack imagination; we always think we have to stay.
Fated to fall, can you resign yourself to sorrow?
You might accept it for tomorrow, but then you cannot get away.
So now you have to try.
We struggle if we live or if we die.
The truth is known to each of us in time.
And though the past is gone,
We find that traces still do linger on.
We gotta break these prison chains that bind.

All of your dreams become beginnings of your nightmares.
There is no difference as the day wears the ugly face you've come to know.
So why don't you scream? They'll never hear you if you make it!
You bend the law until you break it, and you have nothing left to show.
But still you have to try...

Wearing shopworn attitudes like worn out overcoats.
We try to sail the seven seas in an old rowboat.
But go far enough - you just might see there's more to find,
And these days you always still got a chance.
Take a stance.
Gotta make it this time!

All of the time you keep on trying to remember
It's still July and not December... why do you tear yourself apart?
Though all of the signs are pointing toward another stumble,
Can you afford to be so humble that you'll keep breaking your own heart?
You know you have to try...

WHAT SHE DOESN'T SAY
(Pike-Shurman-Trionfo-Andaloro)

She lights a flame that you can't put out,
A siren sounding alarm.
Your heart's on fire, burning at the stake.
She says she means you no harm.
You can't remember how you got here,
Conveniently forgetting where she'd been.
But one thing you just can't can't afford to forget
Is what she doesn't say.

She's speaking with her body, lying with her eyes,
Waiting for someone from the neighborhood.
She's only a dream if you are sleeping;
She's not one to be misunderstood.
She don't remember who she saw last night.
She can't remember him today.
But one thing you just can't afford to forget
Is what she doesn't say.

There's nobody ringing your telephone,
And no one's left a message on your wall.
Your lights are on but nobody's home.
You tell yourself not to recall.
You can't forget the things she told you
When you let your heart outside to play,
But one thing you just don't want to remember
Is what she doesn't say.

OVER
(Pike-Shurman-Trionfo-Andaloro)

Once I had a reason to defend you from the crowd.
Once I had a reason to let you be too loud.
I once thought I saw a little light behind your eyes,
But now I see that you're just waiting for that big goodbye,
But it's all over now.

Lurking in the shadows of the lines that hide your face,
Hoping no one notices you're so much out of place.
Well, you might remember how I played along with your excuse,
And I was just another who put up with your abuse.
But it's all over now.

I can't undo the damage that you left behind.
Sometimes it seems to me there's nothing else.
And though you can't account for your stupidity,
I wish I had the power to send you straight to hell.
It's all over now.

PRETTY SOON
(PIKE/SHURMAN/TRIONFO/ANDALORO)
It was a cold dark night and I was feeling right so I decided to take a ride.
I got in my car and lit a big cigar, and the smoke curled up inside.
Standing by the road I hit the motherlode, and she was sweet as she could be.
She said, "Babe, I ain't jokin', you gotta quit smokin' if you wanna get next to me."
And I said, "Pretty soon I'll clean this up.
Pretty soon, I'm gonna get tough.
Pretty soon - this ain't no bluff."
And she said, "Pretty soon ain't soon enough."

We were havin' fun but when the party was done, there was nobody to take me home.
So I drank the bottle and hit the throttle and made the engine moan.
I was in reverse, and to make it worse, doin' 90 in the left hand lane.
When my breath was tested, I got arrested for flyin' without a plane.
And I said, "Pretty soon I'll clean this up.
Pretty soon, I'm gonna get tough.
Pretty soon - this ain't no bluff."
And they said, "Pretty soon ain't soon enough."

Well, one day soon I'm gonna get it straight; can't leave it in the hands of fate;
Gotta give it a try, but I need a helpin' hand.
I got my whiskey and a big cigar behind the wheel of my hot rod car.
Won't you tell me please what I'm doin' wrong?
'Cause I just don't understand.

Well, I was low on green and I was feelin' mean, 'cause the bank wouldn't float the loan.
I was really pissed 'cause I'd just been 'dissed' and I threatened to break some bones.
Then the Man came in and he flashed some tin, and said, "Boy, get in the truck!"
He said, "It ain't no good you knockin' on wood 'cause you just ran out of luck!"
And I said, "Pretty soon, I'll clean this up.
Pretty soon I'm gonna get tough.
Pretty soon - this ain't no bluff."
Pretty soon ain't soon enough.

(Man, I got a one way ticket to Bummer City.
Grabbin' the bull by the horns I got thrown in a big ol' pile... barefooted and all!
Soon as I finish this beer, I'll probably get to work...
Check out what's on TV first
Yeah, man, I'm almost there...)

I AM HERE
(Pike-Trionfo-Andaloro)

I remember autumn evenings crisp and cool;
I walked the streets alone with thoughts of you.
I would wrap my coat around me
Hoping that you'd somehow understand the way I do.
Time has flown, the days have grown,
And I am here.

Now, there's nothing but a memory
A distant childhood's dreaming seems to slip away.
Now the road stretched far behind me
Miles of living seems I only traveled yesterday.
Time has flown, the days have grown,
And I am here.

Will you remember for me when I can't recall?
Will you believe it's worth the time?
I store my memories for a winter yet to fall;
Will you be laughing or will you cry?

I will wait for just a word or two
>From heaven's voice if you will speak your words to me.
I won't stand alone;
The deepest measure of our love is what we face and what we flee.
Time has flown, the days have grown,
And I am here.

WHERE'S THE PARTY
(PIKE/TRIONFO/ANDALORO)
I woke up this morning and my boss was on the phone.
He told me not to bother, that I might as well stay home.
In fact, he really said that I don't work for him no more,
And on my way out I shouldn't hit my ass upon the door.

CHORUS:
So where in hell's the party when you really need it?
Where in hell's the party when you're really down?
Where are all the people who hang out on sunny days?
Where in hell's the party when you don't have much to say?

My girlfriend called to tell me that she's got another man,
And she'd really like to just stay friends, and hopes I understand.
I sit there in my misery as she says her last goodbye,
And I don't say a word 'cause I can't let her hear me cry.

(CHORUS)

I try to keep my spirits up as I reach for my last beer.
I guess I should just pack my stuff and move away.
But the same things would catch up with me no matter where I go,
So I guess I'll have to hang around another lousy day. Hey!

Last night I got into my car but the damned thing wouldn't start.
Don't know when I can fix it, 'cause I can't afford the parts.
Now I can't go nowhere 'cause I live too far from town,
And nobody comes to see me, no, nobody comes around.

(CHORUS)

I'M SORRY
(PIKE/SHURMAN/ANDALORO)
I still remember you
And the lovers games we shared when all our skies were blue.
Now it's so long ago
But I still see the tears you cried when I left for someone new.
How can I tell you now?
Oh, someone show me how...
Now I regret I burned that bridge and broke your heart in two.
I know there's no excuse for what I blindly put you through.
I can't forget I didn't see your forest for my trees,
And though it's you that cried, the one I really hurt was me.
I'm sorry, and I need your absolution.
I'm so sorry, and I can't seem to make it right.
I'm sorry, and I need a resolution.

Time had its way with us
But I can still see visions of your eyes looking deeply into mine.
How could I walk away?
How could I say to you the words I knew so well would make you cry?
Do you remember me?
Have you forgiven me?
If I could only go back there again to make the change.
I'd know what I must do, and what to say and rearrange.
My longings for the days I missed still tug at me inside.
God, if there's a way, just take me back before I die.
I'm sorry, and I need your absolution.
I'm so sorry, and I can't seem to make it right.
I'm sorry, and I need a resolution.

If I could only go back there again to make the change. (If I could only go...)
I'd know what I must do, and what to say and rearrange. (I'd know what I must do...)
My longings for the days I missed still tug at me inside. (My longings for the days...)
God, if there's a way, just take me back before I die. (God, if there's a way...)
I'm sorry, and I need your absolution.
I'm so sorry, and I can't seem to make it right.
I'm sorry, and I need a resolution.

NOBODY'S BUSINESS
(Pike-Shurman-Trionfo-Andaloro)

Do I have to come right out and say it?
Girl, you drive me crazy when you look at me.
But I can't tell you that I care, can't afford to take you anywhere;
Gotta keep these feelings where they can't be seen,

'Cause there ain't nothing in my billfold.
Ain't nothing in the bank account.
Ain't nothing in the piggy bank, so I can't take you out.
Ain't nothing on the TV.
Ain't nothing on the radio.
Ain't nothing on the VCR, and there ain't no place to go.

But it ain't nobody's business; ain't none of your concern.
Ain't nobody's business, baby - the situation took a wrong turn.

Never could swim out into the mainstream.
Couldn't really sell my soul away.
Now I'm stuck here without you, and there ain't nothing I can do;
'Cause the cost of love is more than I can pay.
